About Sierra Charlie

Learn to Fly a Cessna 172 Near Mesa, AZ

Sierra Charlie Aviation is conveniently located at Scottsdale Airport (SDL), where we enjoy 300+ days per year of aviation-perfect weather. We are a certified Cessna Pilot Center (CPC), a specially selected flight school that represents top-quality, professional flight training.

We provide training under the authority of Federal Aviation Regulations (or FAR) Part 61, which gives students more flexibility than FAR Part 141 training. What this means is that the content and sequencing of your lessons can be altered as your instructor sees fit. Additionally, we can customize your schedule to meet your work or school needs.

Cessna 172 Private Pilot Training

As an approved Cessna Pilot Center, Sierra Charlie Aviation incorporates the Cessna-approved curriculum which ensures that you are learning the most up-to-date concepts and meeting all of the FAA requirements for a Private Pilot Certificate.

The Cessna program is the only program in existence that is a fully integrated flight-training experience. Training materials, ground school, and flight time are all included—everything you need to prepare you for your check ride. Prior flight experience is not needed at all. We will do everything possible to make the process enjoyable, relaxed, and stress free.

In ground school, you will learn about weather, aerodynamics, aircraft systems, flight planning, and federal regulations. Sierra Charlie Aviation provides group ground school quarterly to help you save on the cost of training. Our 8-week program offers classes on Tuesday and Thursday evenings.

Training includes takeoffs and landings, night flight training, and cross-country flight training. Students learn how to perform normal takeoffs, crosswind takeoffs, soft field takeoffs and short field takeoffs. In terms of landings, students learn how to land on soft, grass fields and on short runways. This training will equip you for flying into and out of different types of airfields.

You will practice performance maneuvers like steep turns – a 360-degree turn at a steep bank angle – to get a feel for the plane’s handling characteristics. You will also practice stalls and stall recovery procedures so you will know how to recover properly if you inadvertently stall the aircraft during flight.

The Cessna 172

Cessna Aircraft Company, the world leader in General Aviation for more than 75 years, has built more than 44,000 Cessna 172 airplanes since introducing it in 1955, making this the most successful and best-selling aircraft of all time.

The Cessna Skyhawk is a favorite of most student pilots due it its sophisticated glass cockpit, its superior visibility, its forgiving handling, and its slow landing speed.

The Garmin G1000 glass cockpit provides pilots with features that rival those found in the cockpits of many airliners. Instead of looking in multiple places to see data on round dials and reaching in multiple places to operate controls, the G1000 allows pilots to aviate, navigate and communicate from easy-to-read, large-format, high-resolution computer displays.

More pilots have launched their dreams in a Cessna 172 than in any other aircraft. And many of them will tell you that you don’t learn to fly a 172. The 172 flies itself; you simply tell it where to go!
