About Sierra Charlie

Learn to Fly a Cessna 172 Near Glendale, AZ

Sierra Charlie Aviation provides training under the authority of Federal Aviation Regulations (or FAR) Part 61, which gives students more flexibility than FAR Part 141 training. What this means is that the content and sequencing of your lessons can be adapted to meet your work or school schedule as your instructor sees fit.

We are an approved Cessna Pilot Center (CPC), a flight school that is specially selected by the Cessna Aircraft Company because it represents top-quality, professional flight training and maintains the high standards that have helped Cessna remain successful for over 75 years.

At Sierra Charlie Aviation, we are also proud to have been selected for AOPA Flight Training Excellence Awards year after year. Survey participants include everyone from new students to experienced pilots earning advanced ratings or taking a flight review. Recently, we won the 2019 Flight Training Experience Award for Best Flight School in the Western Region.

Our Cessna Fleet

We have a growing fleet of aircraft that includes six new Cessna 172 Skyhawks. With forgiving handling characteristics, a sophisticated glass cockpit fitted with G1000 avionics, great visibility, and a slow landing speed, the Cessna Skyhawk is a favorite of most student pilots.

The Garmin G1000 glass cockpit provides features that rival those found in the cockpits of many airliners. Instead of looking in multiple places to see data on round dials and reaching in multiple places to operate controls, the G1000 allows pilots to aviate, navigate, and communicate from easy-to-read, large-format, high-resolution computer displays.

Glass cockpit aircraft also contain many safety features, such as traffic, terrain, and graphical weather information, that have the potential to reduce accidents when pilots are trained in their use and use them properly.

Take a Discovery Flight

A great way to start your journey toward becoming a pilot is with a Discovery Flight.

A discovery flight introduces you to the world of flying by giving you the opportunity to fly in a real aircraft and, if you feel comfortable with it, control the craft.

A highly qualified FAA Approved Certified Flight Instructor will take you on an hour-long adventure to familiarize you with the airplane, the airport, and to teach you a thing or two about flying an airplane for the first time.

You will have the opportunity to learn and ask questions about the plane as well as its instruments, and you will briefly be able to, if you choose, hand the controls of the Cessna 172. After that, the instructor will take control of the aircraft once again for landing.

If you decide to pursue flying lessons, your flight time from the Discovery Flight can be counted toward the FAA requirements for your license.
