Take a Discovery Flight

Do you want to learn to fly in Arizona? Then a discovery flight might be just what you need to get excited about studying at Sierra Charlie Aviation. Discovery flights give you just a little taste of what you will get as a student at our school—including real time in an aircraft—and they count toward your necessary hours if you choose to earn your pilot’s license with us.

A discovery flight introduces you to the world of flying by giving you the opportunity to fly in a real aircraft and even, if you feel comfortable with it, to control the craft.

This is how it works: A flight instructor from our school will walk you through a pre-flight briefing. They will then sit with you as you have your first experience flying a Cessna 172 Skyhawk, which is the most popular general aviation aircraft in history and the safest craft available. In addition to this, you will be able to meet the Sierra Charlie staff and be taken on a tour of our grounds.

This bite-sized version of a lesson is designed to give you some idea of what a typical flight might feel like. You will have the opportunity to learn and ask questions about the plane as well as its instruments, and you will briefly be able to, if you choose, hand the controls of the Cessna 172. After that, the instructor will take control of the aircraft once again for landing.

We recommend bringing a camera with you. Scottsdale skies are beautiful, and these discovery flights give you great views of Arizona, which is quite a beautiful place to fly.
