Learning to Fly Phoenix, AZ

If you are in or around Phoenix, AZ and interested in learning to fly, then we invite you to take a look at Sierra Charlie Aviation. We are an award-winning pilot training facility located in Scottsdale, and we can help you get to where you’re going.

Sierra Charlie Aviation is a FAR Part 61 flight school that currently offers courses in Private Piloting, Instrument Rating, Commercial Piloting, CFI, and CFII. If you have limited availability for training, our flexible programs enable you to rearrange the content and sequence of your flying lessons to complete your training quickly.

Part 61 vs Part 141

Flight schools fall into two basic categories, Part 61 or Part 141. The part numbers refer to FAR 14 CFR 61 and FAR 14 CFR 141

Both training courses require students to meet the same standard of performance in order to obtain a private pilot certificate, but there are some differences in structure, accountability, and minimum requirements.

Part 141 schools require a minimum logged flight time of 35 hours, while Part 61 schools require 40 hours. Since most students log over 60 hours of time on the way to their private license, this is not a real difference.

Part 61 is the simpler, more flexible system. The structure of the Sierra Charlie Aviation FAR Part 61 pilot training system allows students to rearrange the content and sequence of their flying lessons to meet their individual needs, a factor that is important when you have limited available training time.

Whether you eventually decide on a Part 61 or Part 141 flight school, there will be no difference in your pilot’s certificate. The FAA checkride is also the same for Part 61 and Part 141 students.

What Can You Do with A Private Pilot License?

With a private pilot license, you can fly with family, friends or business associates in a single engine airplane, day or night, under visual flight rules (VFR). This means the weather must be good enough to allow you to visually navigate the aircraft and to visually maintain separation from obstacles and other aircraft. You may not fly for hire or compensation, although you may share expenses like fuel, oil and rental charges with your passengers.
