Learn to Fly Scottsdale, AZ
Fitting flight training into a busy schedule can be difficult. If you are eager to learn to fly but need a program that will fit your calendar, consider Sierra Charlie Aviation in Scottsdale, AZ.
Sierra Charlie Aviation is a certified Cessna Pilot Center (CPC), a specially selected flight school that represents top-quality, professional flight training.
We currently provide pilot training under the authority of Federal Aviation Regulations (or FAR) Part 61, which provides student pilots with greater flexibility than FAR Part 141 training.
Part 61 pilot training programs allow students to rearrange the content and sequence of their flying lessons to meet their specific goals. If you are only available for training on a part-time basis, Sierra Charlie Aviation’s Part 61 flight school offers excellent flexibility.
We have been honored with AOPA Flight Training Excellence Awards in 2016 and 2017 as one of the top flight schools in the country. Owner and Senior Flight Instructor, Scott Campbell, has also been named as AOPA’s Best Flight Instructor in the Southwest Region, and Senior Flight Instructor Tom DeYoung was one of three instructors in the region to be recognized as a Distinguished Flight Instructor.
Become a Private Pilot
The most popular certificate is the private pilot certificate, also called the private pilot license. It permits you to fly any single-engine, piston driven aircraft anywhere in the US. You can fly day or night in any conditions acceptable to Visual Flight Rules (VFR; minimum of 3 miles of visibility).
You will be able to take to the skies with friends and family or on personal business, but cannot fly for hire or compensation (although expenses like fuel, oil and rental charges may be shared). You may also be able to participate in qualifying charitable and community events under certain conditions.
Career-minded pilots with a private pilot license can also pursue advanced certificates and get paid to fly.
About Flight Training
Students need a thorough base of knowledge to be successful pilots.
In ground school, you will learn about weather, aerodynamics, aircraft systems, flight planning, and federal regulations. Sierra Charlie Aviation provides group ground school quarterly to help you save on the cost of training. Our 8-week program offers classes on Tuesday and Thursday evenings.
You will also log at least 40 hours of flight time, including at least 20 hours of flight training from an authorized instructor and 10 hours of solo flight training. This will include takeoffs and landings to a full stop at an airport, night flight training, and cross-country flight training.
You will learn to be a safe, knowledgeable, confident pilot who can successfully navigate the skies. We love flying and are here to guide you in your journey to earn your wings!
