Is It Expensive to Become A Pilot?
Sierra Charlie Aviation works hard to ensure that our student pilots receive the best and safest training in the industry. It can be expensive to become a private pilot, and we work hard to provide the best flight instruction at the best price.
About Sierra Charlie Aviation
Sierra Charlie Aviation is an approved Cessna Pilot Center, a designation achieved by a limited number of flight schools. We use the Cessna Flight Training System in our programs, and our growing training fleet includes two brand new Cessna 172 Skyhawks that are G1000 equipped and coupled with GFC700 autopilot.
The structure of our FAR Part 61 pilot training system provides our students with scheduling flexibility. Students can rearrange the content and sequence of their flying lessons to meet their individual needs, a factor that is important when you have limited available training time.
Our training team is composed of passionate and highly experienced Certified Flight Instructors (CFIs) who have trained everyone from Sport Pilots to Flight Instructors, and recreational flyers to airline pilots. These outstanding instructors, combined with our excellent Cessna-approved curriculum, will help you earn your wings with one-on-one pilot training tailored to your schedule.
Cost of Flight Training
The FAA requires a minimum of 40 flight hours to obtain your license under Part 61, but the national average is closer to 55 to 70 hours. The cost will vary for each individual, but how often you fly and how hard you study will have an impact.
Your training hours will consist of solo and instructor flights, which require renting a plane and paying for gas and the instructor’s time. To save money, fly regularly so that you can focus more on adding new skills in each lesson.
You will also learn about weather, aerodynamics, aircraft systems, flight planning, and federal regulations during ground instruction and can expect to buy some books and learning materials. We provide group ground school quarterly to help you save on the cost of training.
At Sierra Charlie Aviation, students may pay as they go or purchase a package of their first six lessons/flights at a discounted rate of $1,999.99. Financing is available to qualified customers, and there are a number of companies and organizations that offer aviation loans and flight training scholarships.
How to Get Started
If you are new to aviation, the best way to decide if flying is for you is through a Discovery Flight. This is the first opportunity for you to take the controls of the aircraft and get first-hand experience in the pilot’s seat. One of our FAA Approved Flight Instructors will take you through a pre-flight briefing and your first flight experience. This first lesson costs only $199 and counts toward your minimum requirements for your license.
